Each week, we simply simplify the science behind metabolic health and sustainable energy, because how you feel determines how you perform. And today we're going to talk about something that most people don't associate with leadership, but should, and that is energy. We often think of leadership as strategy, as discipline, as mindset, as productivity. But there's a layer that's often overlooked because the truth is you cannot lead well if you're constantly exhausted. You cannot think clearly, make strong decisions, or show up fully if your energy is inconsistent. And yet, so many high performing individuals are trying to operate at a high level with low energy. Most people focus on time management. They optimize calendars, they build systems, they increase output, but they rarely ask, do I have the energy to sustain this level of performance? Because energy is not just a feeling. Energy is physiology. It's your metabolism, your blood sugar stability, your sleep quality, your recovery, your ability to handle stress. And when those systems are now supported, leadership becomes harder. There's a pattern I see often with high achievers, including myself. They push through, they skip meals because they're busy, they rely on caffeine to stay focused, they train hard but not recover well. They sleep less than they need. From the outside, it looks like discipline, but internally the body is under constant strain. And eventually the strain shows up as brain fog, irritability, fatigue, poor decision making, and consistent performance. Low energy doesn't just affect how you feel, it affects how you lead. When energy is low, you're less patient. My goodness, that one hits quite hard. Especially as a mom and as a business owner. If I don't sleep well, if I don't sleep enough, yes, I'm definitely less patient. And so I have to catch myself and think, okay, why is it that I'm more moody today? Why is it that I'm more triggered today? And oftentimes it goes to me not sleeping well, not sleeping enough, not having good quality sleep, right? That's that's where we recover and repair. We are more reactive, focus decreases, decision making slows down, and creativity drops. And over time, this leads to burnout. Not because you're not capable, but because your body is not supported. What if we started viewing energy differently? Not as something you either have or don't have, but as something you build, something you protect, something you manage intentionally. Just like any other leadership skill, because the leaders who sustain success long term are the ones who understand how to maintain their energy. Let's simplify what supports energy at a foundational level. First, fueling. Consistent meals with adequate protein helps stabilize blood sugar and support mental clarity. Second, movement. Not just burning calories, but building strength. Muscle supports metabolic health and long-term energy. Third, sleep. Sleep is where your body restores and regulates. Without it, everything else becomes harder. Fourth, recovery. Your body needs time to come out, to come out of stress mode. Constant output without recovery leads to depletion. Now, if you want to see these more, like if you're a sports person, right, and you're like, ah, this doesn't make sense. When you think of um an athlete, right, and they're constantly pushing their bodies, constantly working hard, but they don't have, they don't allow themselves to recover and repair, they become injured, right? Or injurings happen more often, or healing doesn't happen. It doesn't happen as fast, right? And that's because we're not allowing our bodies to recover properly. I'm sure among the other things that we talked about too. But if you're a parent, right, think of your your youngest child, right? Or your younger child, even the oldest ones too. When they don't sleep well, they're moody, right? They they are triggered easy, easily. Same thing if they're not fueling properly, right? If they haven't had food, the tantrums are gonna happen more often, right? And that's because you know they're smaller, right? So they still don't have that critical thinking part of their brain well developed. And so the emotions overtake their bodies, right? The similarly happens to adults, right? If we're if all these four things are out of whack, right, we have more triggers that are affecting our energy. Allowing your body to recover and slow down and not do so much is actually beneficial, right? You're not wasting time because you're one, allowing your body to heal and recover and repair, and you're also not going falling behind, right? Because think of it this way. If you allow your body to do what it needs to do to heal and repair, when you come back, you're gonna come back with a punch, right? Meaning that you're gonna be gonna have more focus, you're gonna um be able to work more strategically, right? Versus when you're like pushing yourself and you're like maxing out and you're like, oh my gosh, this is dragging. That it's going to be harder for you to focus and make those decisions, those hard decisions, those critical thinking decisions easier, right? Because your brain is so fatigued. So give yourself, allow yourself to recover and repair, and it's okay to slow down. If you feel like your energy has been inconsistent, this is not about doing more. It's about realigning. Realigning how you eat, how you move, how you rest, how you recover. Because sustainable performance is not built on constant intensity. It's built on balance. Your capacity to lead is directly tied to your capacity to sustain energy. If you are building something meaningful, if you are leading others, if you are striving for long-term success, your energy matters. Not just for today, but for your future. Because leadership is not about why you produce. It's about how sustainably you can continue to show up. I love this so much because essentially what I work with my clients is let's create something that is sustainable for you, right? Something that we can do consistently on a day-to-day basis that is helping you to create really strong habits that three years from now you continue to do that sustainably, right, and consistently, because that's what's gonna help us to lead. That's what's gonna help us to grow, right, and expand. Um and if we don't have the energy to do that, right, we can grow. It's gonna be really, really difficult, right? And so we want to work with our bodies, right? We want to work with that energy to be able to achieve these goals, but in a sustainable way. So remember, take care of your energy. And it could be because I still have a young child, five years old, that still comes to my bed and that wakes me up. But I'm trying to work on the things that I can control. Like I need to go to bed earlier. Um, and that's what I'm working on. Um, because yes, sleep is so, so important. And I can absolutely feel it. I can absolutely see it in the work that I produce and how how my mind and how my body respond when I don't sleep very well. So take care. Fuel yourself, allow yourself to recover.
